A001 Write a thank-you note to a public service figure (current or retired). If you put it in the mail, show us your stamped and addressed envelope (you can block out your return address). If you delivered it in person, show us a picture of you delivering it! +2 Awesome Points per letter, up to 3 letters
A002 Take cookies or sweet treets to a local fire, police, or EMS station. Submit a picture of you and the recipients holding your treats together (but MAKE SURE you get their consent before taking their picture)! +7 Awesome Points

A003 Help outdoor workers hydrate! Offer an outdoor worker such as a garbage collector a hot or cold drink (like hot cocoa if it’s cold out, or a Gatorade if it’s hot). With their consent, take a picture of them holding their drinks and giving you a thumbs-up! If they don’t want to be in a picture, get a pic of you holding the drinks in front of their service vehicle or workstation. +5 Awesome Points
A004 Take flowers to a hospital nurses station — for the nurses! Patients get flowers all the time, but it’s good to appreciate their caretakers, too. Check with the hospital first, as some nurses stations are scent-free (you can get scent-free flowers or plastic ones!). Ask one of the nurses to take a picture with you holding the flowers together (please get consent!). +7 Awesome Points
A005 Thank a teacher who had an impact on you. If you send your thank-you note by mail, show us your stamped and addressed envelope (you can block out your return address). If you deliver your thanks in person, see if the teacher will get a picture with you! +2 Awesome Points per teacher thanked, up to 3
A006 Leave a positive comment card at a business. Telling them about a great employee they have. Show us your comment card and the date! +2 Awesome Points per card, up to 3 cards

Give to Your Community

B001 Donate blood! If for any reason you can’t donate blood, volunteer your time or donate snacks/juice to a blood drive instead. Show us a picture, including the date (on a card or your sticker or anything you like), demonstrating that you’ve done the thing! +10 Awesome Points
B002 Volunteer your time at a local institution of your choosing. This can be an animal shelter, soup kitchen, hospital, library, anything you like as long as it’s not for profit! Show us a picture, incorporating the date somehow, of you volunteering. You can submit this up to 4 times, for the 4 weeks the project is running (up to once a week). +7 Awesome Points
B003 Collect stuffed animals for a local hospital or children’s home. These can be just your own old stuffed animals, or ones that you collect from others in your community! Show us a picture of you with (1) your donation, (2) a card showing the date, and (3) WITH CONSENT, the person who accepted the donation or someone working with the organization. +10 Awesome Points
B004 Donate your old or outgrown clothes. There are any number of places that will accept these donations, from Goodwill/charity shops, to shelters, and more. (If you need help finding a place in your community to donate to, just ask!) Show us a picture of you and your donation with the date and, with their consent, the person who accepted the donation. +8 Awesome Points
B005 Collect supplies for a local shelter. Food is great, but they also need supplies like toothbrushes and toothpaste, soap, and feminine hygiene products. Show us a picture of you with your donation and the date; with their consent, get the person who accepted the donation in the picture with you! +8 Awesome Points
B006 Collect and donate children’s books to a homeless shelter. Show us a picture of you doing the nerdfighter salute, and have your book donation and the date in the picture. With their consent, get the person who accepted your donation to be in the picture with you. +8 Awesome Points
B007 Make a cold-weather care package. Put a warm hat, scarf, and/or gloves in a plastic bag to keep it dry, along with a note of encouragement and the date. Then leave your care package in a place frequented by the homeless/people in need or with a shelter. Show us a picture of your care package in the wild! +6 Awesome Points
B008 Become an organ donor. Show us proof that you have done the thing! If you’re already an organ donor, showing us your existing registration will also work. If for some reason you cannot be an organ donor, you can get a parent or guardian to do this one. +5 Awesome Points
B009 Join the bone marrow registry. Be The Match in the US, but almost every country has one — just search “[country name] bone marrow registry,” and let us know if you need help! Show us proof of registration. +5 Awesome Points
B010 Donate your computing power.Use an app or browser extension like Seti@home or Folding@Home to loan your unused computing power to scientific endeavors. Show us evidence of what you’re doing! +2 Awesome Points
B011 Support science with computer games. This website lists five different games you can play that help you learn about science while also helping scientists gather data about information processing and other scientific advancements. Show us proof that you played one or more of the games and the date. +1 Awesome Point per game, up to 5

Support Existing Charities

C001 Register to participate in a charity walk/run! There are two ways this can work: Either the event itself is during this timeframe, OR you register during this timeframe. Either way, show us proof that you’ve registered or participated! +15 Awesome Points
C002 Educate your social media followers about a charity you support. Then share the link to your post with us! It can be any charity of your choosing, as long as it’s not for profit. +1 Awesome Point per social media platform, up to 3
C003 Bake for a charity bake sale. Show us you and your baked good(s) at the bake sale table, with the name of the organization in the picture. Incorporate the date somehow as well. +5 Awesome Points
C004 Buy from a charity bake sale. Money for charity, plus you get something tasty! Show us you with your purchase at the bake sale table, with the name of the organization and the date in the picture. +2 Awesome Points
C005 Make a Project For Awesome video! You can find all the information you need about making a P4A video at http://www.projectforawesome.com/about. Then share the link to your video with us! +15 Awesome Points
C006 Participate in a local supply drive in your community. The needs of every community are different, but this time of year, there’s some kind of charitable drive going on almost everywhere. Show us you with your contribution, the drop-off point, and the date. +4 Awesome Points
C007 Collect hearts on Tab For A Cause. Show us a screenshot of the hearts you’ve earned! You don’t have to spend them, just show us you’ve earned them. +1 Awesome Point per 100 hearts, up to 500 hearts
C008 Donate your hair. If you’ve got long locks, consider going for the short look and donating the cut hair to a charity that makes wigs. Show us the donated clippings and the date, and tell us where you donated to! +8 Awesome Points
C009 Donate rice by playing on freerice.com. Show us a screenshot or picture of how many grains of rice you’ve donated, including the date. +1 Awesome Point per 1000 grains of rice, up to 5 points

Get Involved in Your Community

D001 Write to your government representative (Senator/Representative, Mayor, MP, Governor, etc.) about an issue you feel strongly about. Show us your stamped and addressed letter (you can block out your return address). +2 Awesome Points per letter, up to 3 letters
D002 Play board games with residents of a senior center. Show us a picture of you and your game in the senior center, holding a card with the date. Ask if your game partner(s) will be in the picture with you! (If not, it’s okay — consent is important). +10 Awesome Points
D003 Leave a book in a Little Free Library or your local version of a book swap. Show us a picture of you dropping off your book, with a note including the date and a kind note. Tell us the name of your book! +3 Awesome Points
D004 Put on a puppet show with kids in a local hospital or shelter. Show us a picture with you and your puppets, plus a card with the date. With the kids’ AND their guardians’ permission, see if the kids want to be in your picture! +10 Awesome Points
D005 Shop in local or family-owned businesses. Buy something you would normally get from a chain at a local store! Show us a picture of your purchases outside the business, and include the date. +2 Awesome Points per purchase, up to 5
D006 Make a poster encouraging neighborhood safety. Remind people to drive slowly when children are at play, or other safety advice. Show us your poster in the wild! Also include a link to the digital file or a picture of you making the poster. +3 Awesome Points
D007 Write a letter to the editor of a local or national newspaper about an issue you feel strongly about. Show us a picture of your addressed and stamped letter (or, if you’re submitting via email, the message in your sent mail folder) — you can block out your return address. +2 Awesome Points per letter, up to 3 letters
D008 Attend a community program, such as at your local library or community center. Show us a picture of yourself with a sign or poster for the program, including the date; do the nerdfighter salute! With consent, get the program host in the picture with you! +3 Awesome Points
D009 Check your voter registration status! If you are registered to vote, awesome; if you’re not, register! Show us proof of your voter registration (please redact any sensitive information!). If for whatever reason you are not eligible to register to vote, you can get a parent, guardian, or close friend to do this one. +3 Awesome Points
D010 Make a Hank-and-John style educational video, complete with links to your sources. Pick an issue you care about and share the link to your video with us! +12 Awesome Points
D011 Support local arts. Attend or participate in a local arts event (such as a gallery show, concert, or theatrical performance). Show us your ticket stub, program, or some other evidence of your attendance/participation that includes the date! +5 Awesome Pointss

Be Kind to the Environment

 

E001 Pick up litter at a local park, beach, etc. Show us a picture of you and the bag(s) of trash you collected, holding a card with the date and doing the nerdfighter salute! (Please remember to wear gloves for safety!) See if you can get some friends to help you out and be in your picture, too. +6 Awesome Points

E002 Make a poster or flyer encouraging people to recycle. Show us a picture of you with your poster or flyer in the wild! Also include a link to the digital file or a picture of you making the poster. +3 Awesome Points
E003 Create or help tend a community garden. Show us a picture of you in the garden with your gardening tools, doing the nerdfighter salute! Include the date in the picture somehow. +6 Awesome Points
E004 Use a reusable water bottle or coffee mug, instead of buying a throwaway plastic bottle or coffee/tea cup. Show us a picture of yourself drinking from your reusable container and holding a card with the date. +2 Awesome Points
E005 Compost for a week! Show us a picture of you doing the nerdfighter salute with your compost pile and the date. +4 Awesome Points
E006 Upgrade your toilet to save water. Place a brick, jar, or other heavy item in your toilet’s tank so it will use less water when it flushes. Show us a picture of your upgraded toilet! +2 Awesome Points
E007 Use reusable, not plastic, shopping bags. Take a cloth bag with you when you do your regular shopping. Show us your reusable bags and a card with the date, and do the nerdfighter salute! +2 Awesome Points per day of use, up to 3 days
E008 Help clear invasive species. If you know which species in your area are invasive and work alone, that’s fine, but this is also an awesome thing to do with a local environmental group! Show us a picture of you (and your group, if you have one) on site with the date. +5 Awesome points

E009 Store and eat your leftovers, using reusable containers. Cooking at home is likely to be healthier than eating out, and storing and eating your leftovers sustainably not only saves money, it helps save the earth when you stop using throwaway cartons. Show us a pic of your sustainably packaged leftovers with the date. +3 Awesome Points
E010 Switch to a bamboo toothbrush. Bamboo toothbrushes are biodegradable, whereas the standard plastic ones are not. Show us your upgraded toothbrush and the date! +3 Awesome Points
E011 Commute sustainably. Take public transportation, bike, or walk somewhere that you would normally drive. Or, carpool with others who would normally drive separately. Show us yourself on your eco-friendly commute and the date! (Please do not try to take a selfie while biking — just take a pic of you with your bike once you’ve reached your destination!) +3 Awesome Points

Be Kind to Others

 

F001 Buy a stranger’s coffee/tea. You can pay for the person in front of or behind you in line, or simply pay for an extra drink to give to a person in need later. Ask the barista to write “+1 DFTBA” on your receipt, and show us your receipt with the extra drink! +5 Awesome Points
F002 Fill up an expired parking meter, or leave extra change in the machine for someone. Show us before and after pictures of the meter, and if you want, throw in a nerdfighter salute! +2 Awesome Points
F003 Do someone’s yard work for free (not yours or your parents). Show us a picture of you with the completed yardwork and a card with the date. If they consent, get the person whose yard work you did in the picture too! +6 Awesome Points
F004 Hide encouraging notes in your favorite books at your local library or bookstore. Show us your notes in the wild, and tell us what book(s) you chose! If your note doesn’t have the date on it, incorporate the date into your picture as well. +1 Awesome Point per note, up to 5 notes
F005 Share flashcards or study tools with your classmates or to help with a local school. Show us your work! If it’s digital, just send us the link; if it’s physical, show us a picture with the date. +4 Awesome Points
F006 Leave encouraging notes on bathroom mirrors. The messages can be any flavor of positivity, just spread some kindness! Show us a mirror selfie of you and your note in the wild. +1 Awesome Point per note, up to 5 notes
F007 Call someone you haven’t seen in five years. While you’re on the phone, hold up a card with the date and who you called (just who they are to you, it doesn’t have to be their name). Wish them well! +2 Awesome Points
F008 Random acts of kindness! Do a small kindness for a stranger and show or tell us about what you did and the date. +1 Awesome Point per act, up to 5
F009 Cook a meal for someone who needs it. Whether you’re helping a best friend through a messy breakup or helping someone with a sick kid have an easier day, cooking for others is a great way to show kindness. Show us your completed meal and the date, and tell us who it’s for. +6 Awesome Points
F010 Babysit for free. Childcare is expensive — help someone save some money. With the consent of the parents and kids, take a selfie of you with the kid(s) you’re babysitting; otherwise, just show us a pic of your childcaring self in action, plus the date. +7 Awesome Points
F011 Give someone a handmade gift or card, just because. Show us your gift/card and the date and tell us who it’s for! Birthday and holiday gifts don’t count — these are given for no reason other than to be kind and show you care about the person. +3 Awesome Points

Be Your Best Self

G001 Read and review a book BY AND ABOUT someone from another culture. Make a point of learning about experiences other than your own. (It can be nonfiction or realistic fiction, as long as it’s about another culture from a perspective from that culture.) Share the link to your review! +3 Awesome Points
G002 Eat 5 portions of fruits and veggies a day. Keep a photo record of your fruits and veggies for the day, with the date! +1 Awesome Point per day, up to 7 days
G003 Take a First Aid course. Share evidence that you’ve attended the class and the date, and tell us something interesting that you learned. +10 Awesome Points
G004 Practice another language. Maintain a week-long streak on DuoLingo, Memrise, or another language learning app or site of your choice. Show us a screenshot of your streak! +3 Awesome Points per week, up to 4 weeks
